PMI |

The Project Management Institute (PMIR) is the world's leading association for the project management profession. PMI credentials are globally recognized certificates that can help to prove an individual¡¦s level of education and experience in project management. The PMI has been dedicated to:
Providing basic knowledge, skills, tools and technologies, as well as ethical professional standards for project managers, assistant, and program managers, for project/program management. |
Continuing to develop, maintain, evaluate, promote and administrate a rigorous, experience, education and examination-based, set of professional certification credentials: the Project management Professional (PMPR), the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPMR) and the Program Management Professional (PgMPR). |

One of the credentials introduced by the PMI, the Project Management Professional (PMP), has been widely accepted by most countries to become an internationally recognized certificate. The PMI¡¦s Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) is a systematic, complete standard framework for project management. It covers the Nine Knowledge Areas and the Five Process Groups of project management practice, and is regarded as a bible for project management. It is this Project Management Body of Knowledge that provides a basic frame for the International Standard Organization (IS0) to develop their universal standard- ISO 10006. The reputation of the PMI¡¦s Project Management Professional credential has exceeded the MBA and has become the world¡¦s most popular certificate.
People usually find themselves facing a bottleneck when pursuing a career with management responsibilities, and most of them have turned to PMP to give them an advantage. Here is a list of the reasons why they have gained a PMP credential: |
1. |
Your enterprise pays increasing attention to whether you can perform good practice in project management or not, as they face intensified global competition. |
2. |
You find that you are often required to accomplish tasks that can not be done without proper project management skills, techniques and knowledge. |
3. |
More businesses need to accomplish goals or targets through properly managed projects with properly trained managers. |
4. |
More projects, or government bids, require prospective sellers, or the leaders of the projects, to have PMP credentials. |
5. |
A common and understandable management language is needed among the project team and management when carrying out project work. |
6. |
The PMP certificate has become the sole and credible qualification for project managers. |

CAMP |
Certified Associate Project Management (CAPM) is another certificate developed by the PMI (Project Management Institute), whose target is college and university students, or new graduates. The CAPM is manly for preparing young graduates for joining an industry that has become more and more project-oriented, to be capable project team members or assistants. Therefore, this certification focuses on validating a candidate¡¦s knowledge of project management processes and terminology.
CAPM has been very popular among graduates ever since it was first incepted by the PMI. This certification doesn¡¦t require the candidates to have work experience, and someone possessing the CAMP credential for three years is then eligible to take the PMP exam.
This is the most popular credential from the PMI, with over 320,000 individuals around the world having obtained the certificate. People say it is almost a ¡¥must-have¡¦ for project workers mainly because: |
1. |
Most of my colleagues and co-workers are communicating using project management terminology and using a lot of useful project management tools. I need to understand these terms and definitions quickly, so that I can work and think more efficiently. |
2. |
I need to get a basic understanding of the tools and techniques used for project planning and management, so that my planning and managing ability can be improved. |
3. |
I need to learn the most efficient project management methods, tools and techniques to help complement my own specialty or professionalism. |

PgMP |
PgMP is a body of knowledge developed by the same institute, PMI, to help guide business leaders, and senior managers, such as company CEOs, on how to make their projects achieve the vision of their organizations. In other words, The PgMP¡¦s managerial thinking is designed for business managers on how to co-ordinate projects to produce the greatest synergy, and open up ¡¥Blue Ocean¡¦ opportunities for enterprise, empowering its competitiveness.
Therefore, unlike the PMP, which is mainly concerned with proper planning and making the least changes to ongoing projects, the PgMP philosophy requires senior managers to be flexible and adaptable, as they seek business opportunities in ever-changing market environments. Here is a list of the reasons why senior managers have found a PgMP credential useful: |
1. |
I have been a PMP for many years, and I want to further improve my project/program management professionalism. |
2. |
My current project management knowledge no longer meets my work environment requirements. |
3. |
I am running many projects at the same time, and I need to find a solution to manage them with ease and efficiency. |
4. |
I need to go to somewhere higher than project management and gain a bird¡¦ s-eye-view of multiple projects, so that I can properly arrange the priority of these projects/programs, allocate their resources, avoid conflicts between them, whilst still making the best from their cooperation, achieving my company¡¦s business objectives. |
5. |
I get an order to establish a PMO (Project Management Office) in my company, but I don¡¦t posses the skills or knowledge to do so. |
6. |
I need to find a way to lead my company¡¦s search for our own ¡¥Blue Sea¡¦. |
7. |
My company is facing crisis, and to survive we need to come up with new solutions and create opportunities. |
8. |
I plan to become, or have a potential to become, a CEO in the future, so I need start preparing myself now. |
